Medical Mission Trip: South Africa!

We are packing up and getting ready to leave for South Africa and our medical mission trip. The team consists of Graduates-Sami Wise, Meredith Pressnell and Becki Perry, Senior-Rachel Thurneyssen, Faculty-Lisa Young, and Physicians-Dr. Chris Boyd and Dr. Aaron Young. Dr. Dan Lawson, Dean of Center for Religious Life and his son David are also joining us. David will be recording our work there for his school documentary project. We will be flying into Durban and going to the Lower Moweni Valley. Here, we will work with Ashland University alumni Abby Mkhwanazi and her husband Sandile.

While we are in South Africa we will be running a medical clinic each day from 9-3. We have raised money to take medications and medical supplies with us. Many of the people have to walk a long distance to try to find medical assistance and then have to wait an extended time before they are treated. In the evening, we will be working with the children in the orphanage that Abby and her husband work at with Orphan Aid. This will be a time to share Bible stories and play games with the children. Many things we take for granted in the States such as toothbrushes and tooth paste will be taken over for the children. Although we are going for a medical mission, our goal is to share the love of Christ with each person that we come in contact with. It is our prayer to not only treat the people physically, but spiritually.
