Rho Nu-at-Large News: Summer 2011

The Rho Nu-at-Large Fall Scholarly Breakfast Meeting will be held on November 12, 2011 from 9am to 11am in the Heritage Room on the AU main campus. Dr. Carol Reece will speak on the topic of genetics. CEs will be provided.  Registration information will be sent closer to the date. Students who are not Rho Nu-at-Large members are also welcome to attend this scholarly event!

SUBMIT A NOMINATION BY AUGUST 15. PLEASE consider nominating a colleague in one of the many categories that reflect nursing excellence! This is a wonderful opportunity for our chapter to recognize nurses who consistently pursue excellence in their careers. The nomination process is not too complex, and the choices are varied! The award categories recognize excellence in:

•    Nursing Leadership
•    Nursing Practice
•    Nursing Education
•    Nursing Research
•    Utilization of Nursing Research
•    Mentoring
•    Chapter Service
•    Academic Performance

Chapter members may self-nominate or nominate any registered nurse (member or non-member) with a baccalaureate degree or higher (in any discipline) who demonstrates excellence in any award category. Nominees approved by the awards committee are recognized and awarded an engraved plaque at a Rho Nu-at-Large meeting. Nominations received by August 15 and approved will be awarded at the Fall Scholarly Meeting; those received by January 15 will be awarded at the Spring Chapter Induction Ceremony.

The nomination form is attached here. Please email any questions to Barbara Halliday, awards committee chair, at

The Rho Nu-at-Large Chapter will send 2 delegates to the STTI Biennial Convention, People and Knowledge: Connecting for Global Health, in Grapevine, Texas from October 29 through November 2, 2011. Rho Nu pays expenses for its 2 official delegates but all STTI members are free to attend at their own expense.  The STTI Biennial Convention is highly regarded with excellent speakers and presentations.  See the STTI website for additional information:

Congratulations to Rho Nu-at-Large member Jada Craze who has been awarded the June G. Patton Memorial Graduate Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. Jada is pursuing graduate study in nursing at Walden University. She will be recognized as a scholarship recipient at the Fall Scholarly meeting on November 12.

The chapter has partnered with the Ashland County Community Foundation to administer this scholarship once the endowment (currently approximately $7500.00) reaches $10, 000.00. As part of this collaboration, future applicants will go through their application process and the deadline is April 15 (versus the Rho Nu-at-Large previous deadline of May 15). Please keep this in mind if you decide to apply next year or in any time in the future. Active Rho Nu-at-Large members will receive notification about the scholarship via postal and/or email early next year.

A portion of the fees for Rho Nu-at-Large scholarly events support this scholarship, so when you attend your event, you support this nurses returning for graduate study!
