Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program at CONHS proves to be a success!

Patti Clayburn and Billie Maglott, Clinical Assistant Professors at the college of nursing, traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, from 10/20-10/25 to the University of New Mexico Mentoring Conference to present research from our College of Nursing's Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program.

 

The research shows the college of nursing increasing retention of nursing students at a percentage of 86%, a number even larger than the University retention level as a whole. Qualitative results from the research show how important the mentoring program is to freshmen nursing students who receive support from sophomore, junior, and/or senior nursing students. Upper classmen receive benefits as well when providing support and friendship to freshmen students.

 

The Peer-to-Peer Mentoring program kicks off this year Wednesday, Oct. 29th, on the Ashland campus with a mixer and scavenger hunt.

AU Students Attend Research Day at Walsh University & meet Award-Winning Nursing Theorist

Ashland University College of Nursing students had the opportunity to attend Research Day at Walsh University on October 17, 2014. Students were able to learn from the many poster presentations as well as meet a distinguished nursing theorist, Dr. Betty Neuman. Dr. Neuman created the Neuman Systems Theory that is studied in NUR 460 course at the College of Nursing.

SCRUBS Society 2nd Pod Party of the semester

The SCRUBS Society 2nd Pod Party of the Semester. This was perfect timing for our students to meet our faculty and hang out at the "island" during their midterms/finals.

The SCRUBS Society Collect for Harmony House

The SCRUBS Society held a collection drive in support of Harmony House of Mansfield. Harmony House provides emergency housing, food and supportive services to individuals and families, who are homeless, while they work to rebuild their independence.

Alumni Banquet 2014

The Dwight Schar College of Nursing Alumni Association held their annual banquet on September 26, 2014, at the Brown Derby Roadhouse in Ontario.  There were approximately 60 alumni in attendance from Mansfield General Hospital School of 

 Nursing, MedCentral College of Nursing and AU Dwight Schar College of Nursing. 

The primary function of the nursing alumni association is to raise money for student scholarships and to support other activities of the nursing students.  This year the alumni were able to give three $1000 scholarships.  Winners were chosen by the alumni executive board based on an essay each applicant wrote answering the question "What are the qualities of a good nurse and how do you meet that criteria".  The students receiving the scholarships were Robyn Siburt, Justin McMahon and Charles Murray.

Also honored during the evening were the 25 and 50 year graduates.  There were 14 graduates from the 1964 Class of Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing.  There was one graduate from the 1989B Class of Mansfield General and for the first time, we had two graduates of the RN to BSN 1989 Class of Ashland University.
