Nursing Students Volunteer at MedCentral Diabetic Health Fair
On Saturday November 2, 2013 Ashland University nursing faculty and students participated in the annual Diabetic Health Fair sponsored by MedCentral Health System. Nursing students conducted blood pressure screenings and glucoscan readings for those in attendance. Two physicians were on site conducting feet assessments and registered nurses provided hemoglobin A1c tests. The results of this test are similar to a 2-3 month average of blood sugar tests. In addition to the screenings, various educational presentations regarding diabetes management were conducted by local health care professionals. A pharmacist, diabetes nurse educator, registered dietitian and fitness instructor were also available to answer questions. Ashland University faculty member Marje Silcox and nursing students Courtney Friebel, Adam Heydinger, Lorie Levy, Julie Natterer, and Denise VanMeter participated in this event.
